Position: Community Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator

Position Summary:

Planned Parenthood Association of Utah (PPAU) is looking for a highly motivated, responsible, outgoing, creative, pro-choice person with organizing experience to coordinate our community engagement programs across the state. The Community Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator will be responsible for cultivating and managing activists, volunteers and interns to build capacity and infrastructure. This position will identify, organize and educate a new generation of members and supporters of reproductive justice. Must have own transportation and is willing to travel; able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Qualified candidates will have experience with managing volunteers and organizing for political and social change.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work closely with the VP of Public Policy to develop strategic outreach and field plans for increasing PPAU and Action Council visibility and capacity throughout Utah.
  • Identify, recruit, train, and retain members, grassroots activists, and volunteers.
  • Supervise and support existing campus programs and assists in forming new programs at targeted colleges and universities.
  • Coordinate Planned Parenthood’s presence at community events and/or health fairs throughout the calendar year. Ensure message and branding is in place at all community events.
  • Assist with voter education and engagement – including training, candidate campaigns and phone banks.
  • Assist in identifying key legislative and electoral targets and implementing strategic grassroots activities to advance PPAU’s objectives in the targeted areas.
  • Assist with outreach to and maintaining relationships with local coalitions and stakeholders.
  • Work in collaboration with other departments such as health center staff, education, development, and marketing & communications.
  • Compile agency statistics, including EEO data for the agency Affirmative Action plan, related to volunteer participation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and respect for diversity in daily activities and in program development.
  • Accept direction and supports agency objectives, goals and values.
  • Perform any and all special assignments as assigned.

  • Time Management: Ability to multi task and work efficiently within close time constraints. Ability to work under pressure and in a stressful environment.
  • Business Knowledge: Ability to master the components of health center operations and processes.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Judgment and Decision Making: Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment and problem-solving techniques in the decision-making process.
  • Technology/Tools: Ability to use various computer systems and applications including proficiency in online and electronic grassroots communications strategies.
  • Compliance: Demonstrates a commitment to the PPAU mission and philosophy. Adheres to PPAU’s policies and is committed to act legally and ethically within the scope of work.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications include a combined 5 or more years of education and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in women’s studies, political science, public policy, communications, or another closely related field plus 1-2 years experience managing volunteers, activists, or organizing for political and social change, or;
  • Associates’ degree from an accredited college or university in women’s studies, political science, public policy, communications, or another closely related field plus 3 or more years experience with managing volunteers and organizing for political and social change, or;
  • High school diploma plus 5-7 years of relevant demonstrated experience (listed above).
