Healthcare Open House: Sorenson Unity Center will have representatives from Take Care Utah, Utah Health Policy Project, Utah AIDS Foundation, Voices for Utah Children, Utah Department of Workforce Services, and others who are experts in the changes coming with the health care law. They can answer questions about how these changes will affect families, what kind of health coverage you might be eligible for, and even help you get enrolled. Details: From 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Sorenson Unity Center (1383 S. 900 West, Salt Lake City).

Film screening of Faces and Voices of Refugee Youth and Half the Sky: Salt Lake County Library will present an evening of film at the Library’s Viridian Event Center exploring the refugee experience. On Oct. 1 there will be a free premier of the half-hour documentary “Faces and Voices of Refugee Youth,” that looks at the lives of refugees living in Salt Lake City through the voices of young people. This will be followed by a screening of the film “Half the Sky.” Details: Starts at 7 p.m. at the Viridian Event Center (1825 W. 8030 South, West Jordan).

Film screening of Two American Families: The documentary “Two American Families,” a collaboration between Bill Moyers and PBS’ “Frontline,” which looks at two families in a 20-year battle to avoid sliding into poverty. Details: Starts at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Library (210 East 400 South).

Legal Aid Society Fundraiser: Join Legal Aid Society’s friends and supporters for the annual Celebration of Justice over Domestic Violence gala fundraiser. Details: Starts at 6 p.m. visit here for more details.

Saturday, October 5th

Period: A Well Woman Workshop hosted by Moontime Rising: Dealing with PMS & problem periods? Ladies, you don’t have to suffer. You can learn to love your period! In this Well Woman Workshop you’ll learn:

  • How cultural shame and silence about your period affects you personally more than you may realize.
  • Simple things you can do everyday to be more period and body positive.
  • How to have a better experience during the days of your period.
  • All about your options with alternative menstrual products.

A Night At The Speakeasy Fundraiser presented by the Northern Utah Coalition for HIV/AIDS Project: Northern Utah Coalition for HIV/AIDS Project and Weber State University will present “A Night at the Speakeasy. The evening begins with dinner, a short keynote speaker in a 1920s Speakeasy. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Entertainment will be provided by the Joe McQueen Quartet and dance music by the BBC4. Casino tables (with casino cash) offer an chance to take your chances for prize money. A tarot card reader and a magician are part of the line-up, too. A silent auction for art, jewelry, gift baskets and hotel accommodations is part of the evening’s fundraising. Utah Undie-Wear Run 2013:  Protest Against Utah Being so Uptight! Show up at 4pm Donate Clothing & Write all over yourself and friends Utah laws you would like to see changed or organizations you support. Free Event, Free Speech Event, Simple, Easy, Fun, Sexy, Scary….Let’s do it. Please be respectful of all law enforcement & traffic laws, they are there to keep us safe, yes this is the day of LDS general conference, please be respectful of other people’s views & property as well. We have gone 2 years without incident let’s keep that reputation going.

This is a peaceful demonstration.

Let Utah know it’s time to recognize that “the rest of us” would like to enjoy the place we call home the way we see fit. Thank you for your support everyone, sorry about the change of plans…..but hey it’ll all work out. Details: Starts at 4 p.m. the Salt Lake City Public Library (210 East 400 South).
