According to a recent study by the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law, Salt Lake City has a higher percentage of same-sex couples raising children than anywhere else in the country. In Salt Lake City and its surrounding areas, 26% of same-sex couples are raising children, and they’re doing it in a state where there is a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage; same-sex adoption is illegal; there are no statewide protections against housing and workplace discrimination.
The lack of protections for gay families makes it clear: the State of Utah values families, but only if those families fit a certain vision.
