Help Wanted: Healthy Sexuality Educator at the Salt Lake County Jail


Planned Parenthood Association of Utah is looking for a Volunteer Health Educator to teach the Healthy Sexuality class at the Salt Lake County Jail. The course the volunteer will be teaching is a four-part class that covers anatomy and physiology, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and body image.

The class is taught once a week to incarcerated women, currently every Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The volunteer educator will be required to attend a PPAU volunteer orientation and a County Jail volunteer orientation as well as fill out all necessary volunteer forms for both PPAU and the Salt Lake County Jail. A criminal history background check will be conducted before a candidate is allowed to attend trainings. The volunteer must be at least 21 years old and able to commit to the position for a minimum of one year as well as have reliable transportation.

After orientation, the volunteer educator will complete eight weeks of shadowing and training (every Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the jail during the class). After the educator is trained, they will join the rotating schedule of existing educators teaching the class one to three times a month.
