Celebrating 700 With a Giveaway!

I started this website in February of this year, and I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response I’ve received from so many people across the Internet. My heart still skips a beat when I see someone comment on the site or share an article. Yesterday we reached a small milestone of sorts–700 ‘Likes’ on Facebook, and I want to celebrate with a giveaway!

In order to participate you simply need to leave a comment on this post by September 30th. Your comment must include a fill-in-the-blank for the statement, “I need feminism because…” The winner will be chosen at random, and I will make an announcement on the SLC Feminist Facebook page on October 1st!

What will you win?

One of these awesome sweatshirts (sizing dependent on the person’s choice):

seneca, selma, stonewall

One copy of bell hooks’ Killing Rage: Ending Racism:

killing rage

A one year subscription to Bitch Magazine!

Leave your comment below and wait for the announcement on October 1st!

  1. I need feminism because a woman is still judged based on her sexual choices.

  2. I need feminism so I can remember indignance at injustice and intelligent integrity are not negative character traits.

  3. I need feminism to feel empowered; nothing is more fierce or beautiful than a body of women empowered.

  4. I want to be better. And I want to raise a feminist child that is even better than me.

  5. I need feminism because women STILL make less money than men for doing equal work.

  6. I need feminism because it provides a lens powerful enough to expose many harmful societal constructions.

  7. I need feminism because I no longer want to be transparent within a society that finds my value second best (or third, fourth, etc.) but mostly, so I can give the gift of worth to my 12 year old daughter.

  8. I need feminism because we haven’t elected a female president yet.

  9. I need feminism because rape culture “doesn’t exist. And besides, it is hormones. Men can’t help it.”

  10. Whitney Hills says:

I need feminism in order to raise my son in a way that he will not perpetuate rape culture and the degradation of women. I need feminism as a moral compass to guide me beyond the inequality of women, to others who are seen as less than because they are not a white-heterosexual-male.

  11. I need feminism because I need control over my own life–my career, if I have children, and who I sleep with.

  12. I need feminism because women still need to work twice as hard as men to receive half the credit, and because patriarchy is still alive and well.
